Sunsets can often be a time for peaceful reflection and gratitude as the day's final hours turn into night. Tranquility and potential feelings of grief may arise during this time while nature's enriched colours and light transform. Metaphorically, a sunset is an ending.

The three-year-old oil painting Sunset Goat [Goat At Sunset] was unknowingly at the time my final painting for the Goat Series.

Each of the paintings within this series has individual significance which I’ll blog about when the timing feels right.

Sunset Goat is specifically good to blog about this weekend as it’s Easter: A holiday that's symbolic of gratitude in many cultures worldwide.

The painting captures a moment of a goat calmly scratching her rib cage with her horn in the last hours of daylight. Something as simple as this moment holds for me appreciation of jubilance and enjoyment which our caprine friends are all about.

Simultaneously, a little feeling of grief surfaces when I look at this painting because it was the end of a fruitful series. In further internal reflection, I have deep gratitude for how much these goat paintings aided me out of personal ruts and blues at the time of creating them.

It’s a warm feeling sitting in a mind frame and space of gratitude as it promotes growth and optimism.

So from this one depiction of a happy, content goat scratching its ribs at sunset, what thoughts arise in you?

Have you a profound memory of certain surroundings during sunset and the internal sensations it brings?
